TORONTO — The Toronto Sunrise Seniors celebrated Mother's and Father's day with a banquet at Karaffa Recreation Commons Area, May 12. President Barbara Pritts welcomed the day's guests, Tracey Parker and Don and Cheryl Clarke. She also read a poem entitled, "What A Parent Is," in honor of the celebrated topic.

Chaplain Gloria Boley provided the dinner's blessing, which was prepared by Connie's Corner in Chester, and offered a reading on the challenges of aging and the joys of being a grandparent.

Tables had been adorned with multicolored tablecloths, placemats and hanging baskets of complementary flowers. The decorations were awarded as prizes to those individuals having a specially-marked placemat. Members Dorothy Pavelka, Lucy Timko and Joyce Gribben received thanks for decorating the hall.

Sunrise Seniors recited the Pledge of Allegiance, recognized May birthdays and anniversaries and remembered two of the group's members under the health report. It was announced the June kitchen committee will be composed of Hank and Laura Sheets and Debbie Luivisi.

Winners of a local grocery store gift certificate included: Judy Sabol, Frank Marino, Helen Bayne, Louie Nelson, Marcella McKnight, Sandi Radvansky, Jerry Cornish, Luivisi, Joe Radvansky and Mary Edwards. Winners of a Texas Roadhouse gift certificate, donated by Clarke Funeral Home, were: Pavelka, Hank Sheets, Ruth White and Paul Zink. Alex Anderdon won a "Bee Happy" sign, provided by Mayor John and Tracey Parker. Officials thanked the mayor, who was unable to attend the function, for the donation. The 50/50 drawing winners were Marsha McConnell and Timko.

Pritts concluded the meeting, thanking everyone in attendance and announced the next meeting will be held Friday.

Following adjournment, members returned to the meeting room for 10 rounds of Bingo, with Joe Radvansky calling numbers. Winners were: Marlene Garrett, White, McConnell, Rex Mossor, Gribben, Shirley Rebich, Sandi Radvansky, Bob Deku and Don Pritts.
