'The Muppets Mayhem' Creator Says Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Retheme to the Electric Mayhem Was Part of Original Show Pitch

Nov 04, 2023

The creator of "The Muppets Mayhem," the acclaimed new Disney+ series focusing on the in-universe band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem said today that he pitched a retheme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Show creator Jeff Yorkes took to Twitter today to discuss a rumor about the coaster's retheme to the Muppets, specifically Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Quoting another site's rumor piece, he said the following:

Not gonna lie– this was absolutely part of our original pitch and is another piece of this dream. Fingers-crossed that it happens. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 #TheMuppetsMayhemRUMOR – Muppets Mayhem To Replace Aerosmith On Rock 'n' Rollercoaster, Fans Give It A Thumbs UP! https://t.co/TBitIw5yPh

Speculation has surrounded Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster for years as allegations surrounding frontman Steven Tyler have continued to make headlines. Late last year, sexual assault charges were filed against him by a woman claiming he assaulted her in the 1970s.

Tyler is, of course, featured with the rest of Aerosmith as part of the Walt Disney World attraction Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney's Hollywood Studios, which opened in 1999. The ride was also a 2002 opening day attraction in Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris but was recently replaced by Avengers Assemble: Flight Force, which utilizes the same track.

Despite occasional rumors, Disney has not removed Aerosmith from Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which would involve a near complete retheming of the ride. In 2016, Disney did digitally alter a hand gesture by Tyler that could be considered obscene. Earlier this year, an actor in the attraction's preshow claimed that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster would be rethemed to Queen, although he later recanted this statement. The attraction recently reopened from a multi-month refurbishment unchanged in content.
