Cedar Point's 2024 season is set to end Saturday, what to know

Nov 01, 2024

The calendar may say November but there's one last chance to get in some late-season rides at Cedar Point.

The Sandusky amusement park will open its gates on Friday and Saturday to guests before closing for the winter.

Park spokesman Tony Clark said in addition to its line up of thrill machines, this weekend's offerings will include the Halloweekends collection of haunted houses and daytime activities for kids.

It will also offer a chance to ride the park's signature 1912 carousel that for first time ever is spinning backward for Halloweekends.

The park will be open 11 a.m. to midnight both days.

Clark said the only difference guests may notice this weekend is that some of the food offerings may be limited as the park winds down for the season.

And guests may notice some construction activity near the Iron Dragon roller coaster as work has begun on the park's Siren's Curse ride that is being billed as the tallest, fastest and longest “tilt” roller coaster in America.

Clark said work has begun on the coaster's tower that will feature the spot where the coaster train will tilt in mid air before connecting to a track hidden below.

The coaster's signature track pieces have yet to arrive at the park.

The 2024 season at Cedar Point certainly had its ups and downs.

It started with a bit of history.

Cedar Point had its earliest opening day ever when it welcomed guests for just one day to enjoy rides on a couple coasters and take in the Total Eclipse in April.

This all helped build anticipation for the long-awaited reopening of the reimagined Top Thrill Dragster that was closed after a mishap seriously injured a rider back in August 2021.

The Top Thrill 2 roller coaster closed after just eight days when problems arose with its trains.

The park initially said the modifications were not a "season-long" thing, but in the end the roller coaster that now features a second tower and a rollback, remained closed for the entire season with no date for a reopening in 2025 in sight.

And then in July, the long-anticipated merger between Cedar Fair and Six Flags closed creating some uncertainty over the future of Cedar Point and whether mainstays like the Peanuts gang will remain or switch over to DC characters.

For now, the newly formed company said mascots and ride theming and names at the parks in the chain will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future.

The summer season had its strange moments too.

Cedar Point made national headlines when park guests released camels and later goats from enclosures in the park's Barnyard attraction.

In both instances, the camels and goats were able to leave the petting zoo area and roam free along the park's Frontier Trail much to the surprise of park guests and the dismay of PETA.
